Video stills
For this assignment, I chose to explore the theme of man versus nature, using only still images to convey the story and emotions behind the concept. Rather than relying on moving footage, I carefully selected and arranged each still to create a visual narrative that emphasizes the relationship and, at times, the tension between humans and the natural world. By editing the images together in a deliberate sequence, I aimed to guide viewers through a progression of ideas, highlighting both the beauty and the challenges that arise when humans interact with nature.
The natural imagery featured in the film, particularly the landscapes, textures, and details, was inspired by elements from South Carolina, lending the project a distinct regional character. To complement these visuals, I paired the images with music played on the guitar, choosing a more bluesy style to evoke the emotion and atmosphere of the scenes. The music works in tandem with the stills to enhance the narrative, creating a layered experience that engages both the eyes and ears.
1959 land Rover
This film follows a day in the life of Marty, a dedicated and passionate individual who has spent countless hours restoring his 1959 Land Rover. The documentary offers an intimate glimpse into his daily routine, highlighting not only his love for classic vehicles but also the ways in which he engages with his family, his land, and the projects that bring him fulfillment.
Throughout the film, viewers witness Marty working on a tractor for his grandson, demonstrating his patience, skill, and the joy he finds in passing on practical knowledge to the next generation. The film also showcases his care for his garden as he tends to a variety of vegetables, illustrating his connection to the land and the satisfaction he gains from nurturing life from the soil. Interwoven with these activities is Marty’s meticulous work on his Land Rover, a labor of love that reflects his attention to detail, perseverance, and appreciation for craftsmanship.
