Chief Sachem Byron "Sun Rise" Brown is the leader of the Wiquapaug Eastern Pequot Indian Tribe of Rhode Island and Connecticut.
We are of the "Spotted Turtle Clan". Married to my wonderful wife Pearl (Pires) Brown for over 65 years, we have three children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren and one more on the way. I was a past First Councilman of the Narragansett Indian Tribe, Master of Ceremony for Annual August Meeting for twenty-five years. Taught Indian dances to adults and youth to local tribes for over 50 years. Was a member of a four-member Legal Team for the Narragansett Indian Tribe for 4 years. Clean up old Indian burial grounds for over 50 years.
Was one the main speakers to get the Narragansett Tribe Federally Recognized in 1983. Testified in Washington, DC to get tribe Federal Funds.
Played Little League baseball "1951" won league championship as the pitcher Played YMCA baseball won championship, Played Elks baseball won championship. Coached Little League Baseball for 10 years. Coached CYO Basketball for 10 years

Graduated from Westerly High School in "1957"
Football and Baseball team four years.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Salve Regina University. Certificates from Babson Command School for preparing budget. URI for fingerprint, photo's, radar school, undercover police officer Ct and RI, US Army Vietnam Veteran Special E-4.1962-1964, outstanding guard duty four times. Retired Police Lieutenant from the Westerly Police Department 25 years. Member of the American Legion in Westerly, RI. Champion Indian Fancy Dancer performed in all New England States and New York. Performed Indian dancers in 1994 Good Wills Games in Russia, also in Poland, Finland and Sweden in 1994. Won several 5-K races at my winter home in Florida. Use to run 5 miles every other day to stay in shape. I play golf now and have a 12 handicap.
My wife and I own a lawn business in Westerly.
Oldest living nephew of Ellison Myers "Tarzan" Brown.
Honored at the Westerly Armony in 2024 for my service to the Town of Westerly, saving several life's, my US Army service time, and my genealogy tracing back to Ninigret Sachem of the Niantic-Narragansett Indian Tribe.
President and Treasurer of the Tarzan Brown Memorial Statue Funds. Raised over $60,000.00, statue is completed and ready to be place in the Westerly Train Station Lot in Westerly in a month or to once the base is set.
